Mara Hermann                Kuaotunu

Born in 1969 in West-Germany, my passion for painting, drawing and sculpting began in early childhood. A good way for my parents to get me out of the way for hours was to give me a pencil and paper. At the age of 19 I began to teach myself oil-painting after getting a brief introduction to oil-colors from my school-teacher. Since then oils have become my favourite medium.

After school I studied architecture for a while and after that I did an apprenticeship in beekeeping where I met my husband-to-be who brought me to New Zealand in 2001.

In 2006 I finally decided to turn my passion into a career. So I started to sell my paintings in group-shows and at art-galleries. Since the beginning of 2008 I work full-time in painting and printmaking.

If you would like to visit my studio or to chat about art you are welcome to contact me.

DIRECTIONS
The location of our temporary studio will be: 7 Bluff Road in Kuaotunu west, which is right on the beach front. When you come into Kuaotunu from Whitianga on SH 25 you drive all the way along the beach, past the boat ramp, until the highway turns away from the water. There you turn right into Bluff Road which stays at the waterfront and my studio will be at number 7, before the bridge. ( behind the bridge you get to the Kuaotunu Motorcamp).

"I have been privileged to have lived in whitianga for 25 years.

it is the most vibrant and inspiring place to create art.
my style of work might best be described as allegorical surrealism.

i work in acrylics and more recently in oils.

i'm exploring my dreams, folkloric and archtypical images, using symbolism rooted in early european myths and legends."
